Painted during a memorable stay in the medieval village of in Southern France, this self-portrait captures a moment of complete stillness inside a centuries-old home. I was enchanted by the room—the antique furniture, warm walls, brilliant blue shutters and beautiful Southern French light spilling through the open windows.
Resting on the bed, completely relaxed and surrounded by the character of this 400-year-old house, I wanted to preserve the feeling of that afternoon: peaceful, intimate, timeless and almost magical.
This painting remains especially meaningful to me because it is both a portrait and a memory of a place and moment I never wanted to forget.
